Description:The surface buildings and spoil tip of Mossfield Colliery near Longton. Dating from the middle of the 19th Century, the colliery produced coal for industry and households until closure in 1963. In 1889 and 1940, the colliery was the scene of two accidents which resulted in the deaths of 75 miners after underground explosions.
