Date:March 1964

Description:This photograph was taken looking north from the Etruria Road bridge just north of Etruria Station. It shows the junction of the Potteries Loop Line (to the right) with the main line to Manchester (straight on). The Loop Line passes close to the furnaces of Shelton Steel Works, on the right and runs through to Hanley. In the centre are the Loop Line sidings. On the left hand side are the towers of Wolstanton Colliery, with their collection of sidings.

Removal of the Loop Line in the 1960s, electrification, the closure of the steel works and colliery led to the removal of much of the trackwork in the photograph.
