Description:This photograph was taken from the Bedford Street Locks (locks 1 and 2) looking north along the Caldon Canal towards Mellor' Mills wharf and works. The canal bends sharply round to the left towards the junction with the Trent & Mersey Canal at the Summit Lock and Etruria Industrial Museum. The spoil tip on the left belongs to Shelton Bar Iron and Steelworks. At the extreme edge are the furnaces of the steelworks. Mellor's Mill has been demolished and is now the site of housing on James Brindley Close. On the left behind the brick wall was the site of the early 19th Century hospital and dispensary, one of the first hospitals in The Potteries.
