Description:Looking through the wall of Henry Richard's Tile Works on Williamson Street. At this time the works was being demolished. In the centre is a half dismantled downdraught kiln. The entrance (or wicket) can be seen at the bottom left. Almost hidden behind the piles of bricks are the firing holes (or mouths). Running around the oven are three iron straps or bonts. These were used to support the brickwork and prevent warping when the oven was fired. The bonts up to 8 inches wide and made in short sections and joined together.
