Description:A view over the Clay pit at G H Downing's Brownhills brick and tile works. The houses running across the photograph are on Brownhills Road and Davenport Street. The camera is looking south east with the tower of St Paul's Church (now demolished) in Dalehall , on the extreme right hand edge. In the centre is the bell tower of St Joseph's Catholic Church in Burslem. The pit was used to extract Etruria Marl for the brick and tile industry. G H Downing were once the world's largest producer of roof tiles.
