Description:This is a view of Chatterley Whitfield Colliery waste tip from the Biddulph Valley branch line. The camera is looking north, with the houses on Catharine Road to the left of the photograph. This section of line was between Ford Green and Black Bull and at this point there was a track crossing the railway leading to Whitfield Mill (to the right). The line ran north to Biddulph and Congleton and south to join the Stoke to Leek branch at Milton. The line finally closed in 1969. Chatterley Whitfield Colliery was the first inn the UK to mine 1 million tons of saleable coal in a year. The site had six shafts and remained open until 1976. The waste tip has been reduced in size and landscaped as part of a 50 acre heritage country park.
