Description:Victoria Mill belonged to Harrison & Son, manufacturers of ceramic colours and glazes. A Harrison's 1893 advertisement claimed they were "the largest glaze and colour makers in the world". Ingredients for glazes were melted into fritt at the Phoenix Works in Hanley before being transferred to the Victoria Mill to be ground "finer than the finest white flour". The mill had a wharf on the Caldon Canal connected to the mill by a branch off the Stoke to Leek railway line. Initially water and then steam powered, the photograph shows an electrically powered mixing and grinding mill. The site of Victoria Mill is now housing, although Victoria House and Victoria Mill Cottage still stand.
