Description:One of two stone quarries along Forrester's Bank on Baddeley Edge. The view is west over the houses of Baddeley Green, with Crestway Road on the left edge of the photograph. The original quarry in the photograph (now filled in) had a grinding mill for silica stone. The rock is a variety of Millsone Grit known as Chatsworth Grit and was formed between 325 and 315 million year ago (Namurian age) at the time when this part of Staffordshire was a large river delta. The gritstone was used both for building and as an abrasive.
