Description:A Congregational Chapel (also known as the Independent Chapel) was built in 1819. In the mid Victorian period, the congregation was over 150 for morning and evening services. A Sunday School was attached to the chapel. The present brick built building was opened in 1905 alongside the original chapel which is in Middle Cross Street, off to the right. The chapel served as a community hall, an active centre for the relief of poverty and social hardship. The building fell into a poor state of repair until it was bought and renovated by Eric Thompstone in 1965. It is used as the Longton Community Church.
