Description:A Ford Escort and a Potteries Motor Traction bus bound for Silverdale is bought to a halt by a police constable in Hartshill. This photograph was taken close to the junction with Queens Road, looking towards Stoke-on-Trent. The white painted building was Fleur hairdresser's at the time of this photograph, and the pointed roof of Campbell Cottages can just be seen.
Public transport was still popular around this time and although becoming more widely used, cars were still luxury items and not everybody felt the need to own their own vehicle. Police officers on point duty were a common sight before the advent of advanced electronics for traffic control.
