Description:Hem Heath colliery was one of the biggest in the area and was located in the south of the North Staffordshire coalfield at Trentham.
The 'Big A' headstock stood defiantly as an icon to the mining industry in the area. During the coal strike in 1984 it witnessed pickets and fighting between miners and the police. It was demolished with explosives in 1997.
