Description:During the inter war years the City Council, along with many other councils in the country, embarked upon a massive house building programme. Not only was this to encourage people to move to the area with an offer of modern, fully equipped houses, but also to fill positions in the new and expanding factories such as the Michelin tyre factory. Trent Vale offered the occupants modern housing, a hospital close by and good communications as it is situated on the main A34 road. The houses and gardens were spacious and many people moved here from the slums, such as John Street in Longton, that were being cleared. This aerial photograph clearly shows the planning and design the architects employed in order to improve the quality of life for the new occupants.
