Description:This photograph of Wedgwood's original factory next to the Trent and Mersey canal in Etruria, Stoke-on-Trent was taken in 1929. The factory was a site of real innovation and invention but was disused after the company moved to Barlaston and the building was demolished. All that remains of the factory is a roundhouse next to the canal. The Sentinel newspaper offices now occupy the original Wedgwood site.
In the foreground of this picture is a packhorse being led by a person just behind him: such modes of transport were becoming far less common at this time and as such this picture really offers a glimpse into a bygone age.
