Description:This is the Eastwood pottery works in Stoke-on-Trent which was owned by J. & G. Meakin.
The company was well known for its ironstone china and white granite ware, much of which was sold in America through mail order catalogues.
This picture highlights the historical importance of the canal network to the pottery industry: narrow boat transport was an efficent means of receiving raw materials and delivering finished goods, and helped to avoid the damage to wares that was associated with journeys by road.
