Date:1984

Description:During the miner's strike of 1984/1985 many miners and strike supporters travelled to demonstrations around the country. In later years it became illegal to picket any place of work other than your own.
One of the placards in the bus window reads 'Strike now before MacGregor does'. Ian Macgregor (later Sir Ian MacGregor) was Chairman of the National Coal Board during the miner's strike and fought against strike action. A controversial figure, he was widely reviled amongst the mining community and confrontations between him and Arthur Scargill, leader of the National Union of Mineworkers, were often bitter and of a personal nature.
