Description:The Empire Porcelain Company's works stood on the corner of Stoke Road and Newlands Street. This photograph was taken from the corner of Queen Anne Street opposite. Beyond the corner of Elgin Street, the porcelain works continued, in what today is Empire House. On the left side is the edge of the Winton Pottery. The Empire Works opened in the 1890s, with the two works buildings joined by a footbridge across Elgin Street. The third pottery in the photograph is Grimwade's Winton Works. Winton House and Empire house still stand, with different uses. The Empire Works in the centre has been demolished and is now a petrol station.
