Description:The Longton end of Sutherland Road with part of Longton Police Station on the right hand edge and the Anchor China Works in the centre. The road sign is giving directions for the junction of Sutherland Road with Anchor Road and Market Street visible at the bottom. The building with the round tower is the Heathcote Hotel, on the corner of Anchor Road.
The Police station was demolished in 1992 and a replacement built on the same site. Both Anchor China Works and the Heathcote Hotel have been demolished.
Parked outside the Police Station is a 1960s Velocette LE motorcycle, used for police patrols and equipped with radio. The motorcycle was nicknamed the "Noddy Bike", and was widely used before patrol or "Panda" cars became commonplace. It had a top speed of around 50 mph.
