Description:The building on the left was the offices of Shaw & Copestake Ltd., the producers of fancy earthenware with the Sylvac mark. They had factories nearby on Normacot Road and Chadwick Street. The building was originally the Cyples Colour Works: there is a tablet above the windows which reads "Longton Colour Works, 1906" with the initials HJC. HJC was Henry Jesse Cyples who was famous or being the agent for Dr Mockels liquid gold and silver.
This photograph is taken looking down Normacot Road towards Commerce Street. This building still stands, although not in use. Chadwick Street is further down the road on the right. The photograph was taken from the corner of Morpeth Street (formerly Albion Street). The unidentified factory on the right has been demolished and rebuilt.
