Description:This photograph is looking north along Bridgwood Street from close to the Sutherland Road junction. A coal wharf on the right was alongside Bridgwood Street (formerly called Wharf Street). The bridge carries the Stoke to Derby railway line. Behind the derelict engine house, on the other side of the railway, is the Anchor Pottery works. The wharf was fed by a tramway using pit wagons from Mossfield Colliery which came down Sandford Hill. Derelict at the time of the photograph, the wharf site has been cleared.
