Description:This photograph was taken from the corner of Lawrence Street, looking south east towards the gates into Hanley Park on the corner of College Road and Cleveland Road. In the distance are the two spoil tips of Berry Hill (nearest) and Mossfield collieries. Today the immediate foreground is housing on Shackson Close and to the right the allotments on College Road. The grazing sheep belonged to Shelton Farm.
The building with the chimneys and the two square towers just behind the park on the left are part of the old Hanley electricity works, alongside the Caldon Canal on Bethesda Road. Now demolished and used for housing.
