Description:The camera is looking north east along Cannon Street (now Cannon Place) towards the centre of Hanley. In the centre distance is Hanley town Hall with its steep roofs. The photograph was taken from the corner of Lindsay Street (Oxford Street until changed in the 1950s). On the right are the premises of W F Stubbs an upholstery company and immediately beyond, the old Ministry of Labour Employment Exchange. The different entrances, labelled A to E are just visible. Originally these buildings were part of the Arcadian Earthenware works.
The white building peeking out from beyond the Employment Exchange is the Bethesda School Rooms building on Bethesda Street. The space between these two building is now occupied by the Potteries Way ring road. The buildings on the left side of Cannon street have also been demolished. A car park occupies much of the land.
