Description:Looking along Brewery Street towards the junction with Bryan Street. Beyond is the site of the old Port Vale football ground, a car park by the time this photograph was taken. The building on the right was Thomas Cooper's brush works. Cooper's had a shop and showroom in nearby Hope Street (number 66) with this large manufactory arranged round a central courtyard in Brewery Street. The company made bass and hair brooms, artist's brushes as well as potter's dusters.
On the right, just beyond the Bryan Street crossroads is the old Ragged School building dating from the 1850s. This later became a Sunday School.
The football ground/car park is now part of the Potteries Shopping Centre multi-storey car park. The school and the buildings on Bryan Street have been demolished (by 1970). Both sides of Brewery Street have also been cleared.
