Description:Looking southwards along Clayton Lane from close to the junmction with the A34 (Newcastle Road). On the left are bakery buildings, at the time of the photograph, Birkett & Roberts Trent Vale Bakery, producing "Champion Bread & Cakes". Later the site became part of Premier Foods Manor Bakeries and the "Mr Kipling" brand. Part of the Art Deco style factory is on the left edge.
On the right edge is Springfields Garage and in front, just off the edge of the photograph, Springfields House. This later became a public house and restaurant.
In the middle distance are the housing estates in Clayton laid out since the 1950s. the Lyme Brook runs unseen across the middle of the photograph with Newcastle & Hartshill Cricket Club ground just beyond.
