Description:The photograph was taken from the end of Vicarage Road on the edge of Hartshill Park and Nature Reserve. The camera is looking south eastwards along the Fowlea Valley towards the sites of Stoke Station and Staffordshire University.

In the centre of the photograph, the line of houses is along North Street. The main railway line, marked by wagon sidings, runs between the long low factory buildings beyond North Street and the land between is now the route of the A500m(Queensway). On the right hand edge at the top of the open space is St Dominic's Convent and School. The colliery spoil tips in the distance belong to Fenton and Parkhall Colieries.
