Description:The photograph was taken from the end of Vicarage Road, at the entrance to Hartshill Park and Nature Reserve. Looking north east, the tower in the middle of the photograph is St Mark's Church in Shelton, on the higher ground to the left is Hanley and to the right, the wooded areas of Hanley Park and Cemetery. Twyford's Etruria and Cliff Vale works are on the left hand edge. In front running across the centre of the photograph is the, now dismantled, Stoke to Newcastle and Market Drayton railway line and on the right hand edge, the junction with the main and sidings at Cockshott (Cockshute). The A500 (Queensway) would now dominate this view.
The foreground is the present day Hartshill Park, at one time a mixture of farmland, allotments and marl pits.
