Description:The front of the City General Hospital seen from Newcastle Road (A34). The view today is very different, with the buildings in the photograph demolished and replaced by the modern units of North Staffordshire University Hospital and Keele University Medical School. The photograph shows the area that is todays main entrance off the A34.
Originally the site of the London Road Workhouse and Stoke on Trent Parish Hospital, the building on the left dates from 1884 (the "New Hospital"). From 1945 it became known as the City General Hospital. The ward building to the left is now the West Building, The 1884 site is now the Maternity and Cancer Centres.
