Description:This is the view along Etruria Road near the bottom of Basford Bank, looking towards Shelton Steel works. Behind are the spoil tips of the Shelton and Racecourse Collieries. Wedgwood's Etruria Hall is faintly visible in the centre of the photograph, just in front of the right hand tip.
On the left are the Hartley Engineering works dating from 1916. The company specialised in machinery to purify sewage. Just above the works is the Potteries Loop Line railway heading away from Etruria towards Hanley and passing the furnaces of Shelton Steel. There are lines of tankers in the Loop Line sidings. The houses on the right lead down to Bank Terrace. mostly now demolished. The A500 (Queensway) and its roundabout now cuts through the bottom half of the photograph, with a retail park occupying what appears to be Wenger's Car Park (Wenger's Colour Works is just off the photograph to the right).
