Description:Looking down Robson Street towards the entrance to the Hanley Greyhound and Speedway Stadium (Sun Street Stadium). In the middle distance is one of the gas holders belonging to Etruria gasworks. On the left hand side is the old Britannia Pottery (with an old gas lamp standard and base) and opposite, the Fairfield Pottery. It looks as if the photograph was taken at break time.
The Britannia Pottery was occupied by Electrical and Ordnance Accessories, and electrical engineering firm. Fairfield Pottery was operated by A G Hackney & Co. They manufactured porcelain for the electrical and radio industry. The wagon outside the Fairfield works is carrying the forerunner of the modern container: a wooden van which could be loaded onto flat railway wagons.
The buildings along Robson Street, the stadium and the gas holder have all been demolished.
