Description:The main entrance to George Howson's bathroom and sanitary ware factory in Clifford Street, off Lichfield Street in Hanley. The works was known as the Eastwood Works and occupied the land between Clifford Street and the Caldon Canal. Howson's occupied the site for nearly 100 years from 1867. The area is now housing.
In front of the main gates is a tug and trolley used to carry heavier ware between factory sites. Licensed for use on the road, the driver obviously had yet to pass his test.
