Description:Looking along Waterloo Road up towards Swan Square in Burslem. The large building on the right, on the corner of Zion Street (previously Regent Street), was the Waterloo Pottery operated by T & R Boote, who specialised in encaustic tiles. Pottery was produced on this site from the late 1700s, with Boote's occupying the site from the 1850s. The company became part of Richards Tiles (later H & Johnson) in 1963. Waterloo Pottery has been demolished and the site is occupied by a supermarket. many of the shops on the left hand side still stand, along with those on the right at the top of the hill, closer to Swan Square.
