Description:Looking from St John's Square towards Market Place and the old Town Hall in Burslem. The photograph was taken from outside the Duke William public house. The square was built up from the 1800s and appears in Arnold Bennett's novels as St Luke's Square. A cast iron drinking fountain now stands where the Christmas tree is. Installed originally in 1881, paid for by John Maddock the fountain was renovated and repositioned in the 1990s. Beyond is the old Town Hall with the Angel of Victory, before restoration, atop the clock tower. In Market Place is a range of shops.
