Date:May 1964

Description:Burslem Cemetery was consecrated in 1879. It lies between Hanley Road, Leek New Road and the grassed over spoil tip of Sneyd Colliery. The cemetery chapel was demolished in 2008.

Arnold Bennett died in London in 1931 aged 63 and his ashes were interred in Burslem Cemetery after a cremation at Golders Green. The grave is near the centre of the cemetery. Above the grave there is a grey granite monument. The inscription reads: "Here lie the ashes of Enoch Arnold Bennett, author. Son of Enoch and Sarah Anne Bennett. Born 27 May 1867. Died 29 March 1931". There is an error here as Bennett died on March 27th.
