Description:The Goldendale Ironworks was between the Trent & Mersey Canal and Tunstall Cemetery (off to the left) in the Chatterley Valley. The site is now open space and marked with a piece of public art; "Golden (The Flame That Never Dies), reflecting the flames from the furnaces. On the left of the photograph is the slag from the furnaces.
The Goldendale Ironworks had been opened by Williamson Brothers by 1848, and there were then two furnaces in blast. The Ravensdale Ironworks to the south had been opened by the early 1850's and that site is now largely covered by the slag heap of the Goldendale Ironworks. The Goldendale Iron Foundry is on the road near Holly Wall.
