Description:A Shraff tip was the pottery industry's rubbish tip, containing moulds, used saggars and broken pottery such as lump and wasters. Lump and waster was faulty pottery, so bad it couldn't be sold as "seconds" or even "thirds" and ends up being deliberately smashed and dumped.
