Description:The houses on the skyline are on Davenport Street & Brownhills Road. The pit lay to the east of Westport lake and was open cast mined for Etruria Marl. Etruria Marl has been dug in North Staffordshire since the 15th century. When the red clay is fired it produces the very Staffordshire hard blue bricks. The marl is found immediately above the coal seams of the North staffs coalfield.
