Description:The imposing chimney of Church the Bank pottery. The original Church Bank works was built by Robert Beswick in 1842 and passed through several hands before becoming Thomas Booth took over in 1868, manufacturing earthenware and "iron stone china for hotel and ship use". Booth's eventually became part of the Ridgway Group in 1955. The works was at the end of Bank Street, on the corner of High Street. Opposite is part of Alfred Meakin's Royal Albert and Victoria Potworks.
In the distance is the waste tip of Whitfield Colliery and parts of Chell and Pitts Hill. Both works have been demolished and the area used for housing.
