Description:The photograph, looking north east, shows the mineral railway line serving Chatterley Whitfield Colliery. The bridge in the centre carries the line over Chell Heath Road and the houses on the extreme left edge are on Johnson Place in Fegg Hayes. To the left of the photograph the line ran in a tunnel under High Lane to Pinnox sidings in Tunstall and onwards to Scotia Road.

The colliery waste tip is off to the right, the chimney served the colliery boilers and the winding gear just to the right was at the top of the Institute Shaft.
