Description:A view along the Biddulph Valley branch line where it runs alongside Norton Colliery, which is to the right. The spoil tips just appear on the extreme right. The photograph was taken from the Leek Road (A53) bridge looking north. In the far distance is the bridge that carries the mineral railway into the colliery and in the centre some of the sidings with colliery coal wagons. The large pipe running across the photograph to the right of the line and pond is a sewage pipeline belonging to Stoke on Trent City Corporation.
Beyond the mineral line are lines of houses in Smallthorne and on the horizon, Bradeley. Ford Green Brook is the small stream between the colliery and the railway lines.
