Description:The photograph shows the old premises of Jones & Shufflebottom (Wholesale Plumbers' and Builders' Merchants) at the north end of Wharf Street, Stoke. The building was formerly the site of Prince's Hall Cinema, opened in 1913, which claimed to seat over 1000. The cinema backed onto the Trent & Mersey Canal and there are many stories of rats scurrying around in the dark whilst the films were being shown. Wharf Street now lies beneath the A500 (Queensway).
