Description:A view south along the floor of the Trent Valley near Abbey Hulton. The photograph was taken from the embankment of the Caldon Canal and Biddulph Valley Branch line. Here the river is some 7 miles into its 180 mile journey to the Humber Estuary. The valley floor is made of sands, gravels and alluvium. It was probably formed by a larger river carrying water from melting glaciers at the end of the last ice age.
