Description:This is a view looking north from Bull Lane towards Victoria Colliery. Black Bull station buildings can be seen on the right hand side. The station was on the now dismantled Biddulph Valley Branch. On the extreme right is part of The Railway Hotel on Outclough Road (Tunstall Road).
The row of terraced houses on the right face onto Childerplay Road and were known as New Buildings. The Doorbar family lived at number 59 from about 1957 to art least 1970 and ran a grocers and general stores from their front room. In the coal shed at the front of the house was a huge barrel of paraffin that Mrs Doorbar would decant into whatever tin the customer brought.
The colliery was once part of Biddulph Coal and Iron Works. The waste tips are to the left, connected by the overhead cableway. All of he site has been reclaimed for farming, industrial and commercial uses.
