Description:A view north along Church Street at the junction with Campbell Place (to the left). Sutherland Chambers, dated 1899, is the large building, with many chimneys, on the left next to the modern supermarket. In the centre of the photograph is the 19th century Talbot Hotel (with the Joules sign) and beyond, Lion's Furnishing store with a highly decorated front (note the stone lions). The empty space to the right was the site of the original 19th century coaching inn, The Wheatsheaf Hotel, demolished in 1963. It is now the site of the rebuilt Wheatsheaf public house.
