Description:This is a 'Service Respirator', issued to the Army/Navy/Air Force, also the Police and some Civil Defence etc. but generally not a civilian item.

Forty million masks were distributed to the civilian population of Britain in 1939, amidst fears that gas would be used to attack the population.
