Description:Earthenware over-glaze painted figure, height 145mm. Joseph Grimaldi (1799-1837) was an actor and pantomimist, who acted for many years at Sadler's Wells and Drury Lane theatres. The figures were possibly produced to commemorate his farewell performance in 1828. The undecorated figures were excavated at St. Paul's Church, Burslem in 1974. The decorated Grimaldi figure is on display in the ceramics gallery.
