Local men are calling for a local police force to be established in the area.
They resolve that a committee of local gentlemen should be formed to consider the issue immediately.
Recommendations
The notice describes plans to consult with local magistrates and justices of the peace, and recommends the following measures:
That an Act of Parliament should be passed to help establish the force;
That commisioners should be appointed, and that they should own at least £75 worth of property to qualify for the job.
That watchmen and patrolmen should be appointed.
That a paid position of superintendent should be created;
That powers should be granted to erect a court and prison;
That a local tax of up to 6d in the pound should be levied to pay for all of this.
That each district should look into the possibility of introducing street lighting.
The intended limits of police jurisdiction are also outlined, stretching from Goldenhill to Trentham.
