Description:Souvenir ticket for a "Whist Drive & Social" evening taking place at Longton Library on December 17th 1908. The whist drive was either for Longton Labour Church or the Social Democratic Foundation, organisations with which longton photographer William Blake was involved.
The ticket includes a portrait of Robert Blatchford (1851-1943). He was a socialist campaigner who launched the Clarion newspaper in 1891. He is known to have converted the Countess of Warwick to socialism.
Whist Drives were, and still are, money raising events dedicated to a particular cause or organisation.
