Description:The tall chimney on the left belonged to George Ashworth's Broad Street Works. On the right are the remains of a chimney belonging to Clementson's flint mill. The bottle ovens in between are part of the Broad Street Works. The area in the foreground was once Clementson's Phoenix pottery works, also on Broad Street. On the extreme right hand side is the brick wall of the ABC Cine Bowl which stood on Broad Street.
Ashworth's manufactured earthenware inn Hanley from the early 1860s until 1968, when the company was renamed Mason's Ironstone. Production ceased in Hanley in 1968 and the land was finally cleared in 1999, becoming the site for a supermarket. The site lay directly behind the Mitchell memorial arts centre.
Clementson's Phoenix works dated from the 1830s and were demolished in the 1930s. The flint milling part of the business remained until the site became Clementson's Mill car park.
