Description:The entrance to S Fielding's Crown Devon Works on Sutherland Street, off Whieldon Road. Until 1912 the pottery was known as the Railway Works, set up in the late 1800s and operated by Hackney & Kirkham. Simon Fielding controlled the company from 1879 and specialised in majolica ware.
In 1912 the Railway Works was renamed The Devon Pottery and Fielding developed the famous Crown Devon ware and name. The works closed in 1982 and was demolished in 1987.
