Description:Earthenware painted figure, height 265 mm.Painted, 'Ra.Wood Burslem' impressed on base. Maker is either Ralph Wood II or III of Burslem. Jupiter is shown crowned, with an attendant eagle at his left side. In his right hand is a thunderbolt and in his left hand a sceptre.Jupiter was originally a Roman sky god connected with the elements and the agricultural cycle. He later developed into a special protector of the Roman people. E. M. Wood Collection, purchased with aid from the V&A Purchase Grant Fund.
