Keith Day Pierce Murray MC, RDI, FRIBA (1892-1981) trained as an architect, but also designed pottery, glass and furniture.
He was introduced to the Wedgwood factory in 1932 and was invited to design freelance for the firm from 1933. An exhibition held at John Lewis' store in London in November 1933 featured no less than 1234 shapes designed by Murray.
In 1936 Murray founded his own architectural firm in partnership with Charles S. White, and this firm was chosen by Wedgwood to design the new factory at Barlaston. Murray's buildings are still central to the Barlaston factory.
